Easy Ultimate Sugar Cookie

Picture of a spilled canister of sugar This recipe for Easy Ultimate Sugar Cookies has served me well. I promise it will be the richest tasting sugar cookie you have ever tasted. These cookies are my personal favorite. There is nothing pretentious about this sugar cookie, they are simple pure cookies made with pure ingredients. I have described how to make these into simple sugar covered drop cookies, however you can also roll the dough into tubes, chill, slice and bake. Another option is to use colored sugar to match a holiday or add food coloring to the dough before chilling. You may halve the recipe if your will not hold 6 cups of flour.




3 cups unsalted butter, softened

3 cups white granulated sugar

1 Tbs. pure vanilla extract

6 cups all purpose flour

2 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. salt

granulated sugar for rolling


Preheat oven to 350º. In a large mixing bowl with an cream butter and sugar. Scraping occasionally, make sure that the creamed mixture is light and airy. Add pure vanilla extract and beat well.

In a gallon sized zippered food storage bag combine flour, baking soda and salt. Seal bag and shake well; making sure everything is distributed evenly. With your on it’s lowest speed, slowly pour flour mixture into the creamed butter and sugar; scraping sides of bowl with a silicone spatula when necessary. Do not over beat; beat only until combined.

Scrape dough into the food storage bag, squeeze out the air and seal. Place into refrigerator to chill slightly; you want to chill it enough so it is easier to work with, but not until it is solid. If you've let it chill too long, just let the bag of dough warm up on the counter a little before you work with it. With a cookie scoop, scoop out balls of dough and roll in granulated sugar. Place balls onto parchment lined baking sheets. Bake for approximately 10-14 minutes. Do not over bake. Bottoms should be just golden brown. Allow to cool on baking sheets for approximately five minutes and then carefully remove to wire cooling rack to cool completely.



You will find that the dough for Easy Ultimate Sugar Cookie is very versitile. You may roll it into logs to chill and then slice and bake. You can even knead food coloring into it, or roll it in colored sugar. Have fun with it, be creative; but most importantly taste the result!
