Common Baking Abbreviations

It is important that you understand these common baking abbreviations in order for you to get the best results from your baking efforts. There is a big difference between a Tablespoon (T or Tbs.) of ground cloves and a teaspoon (t or tsp.). I often feel that the world would be a better place if all recipe authors would just standardize the way they write a recipe; I myself find it difficult to keep my writing standardized. Without that, we are forced to learn these common abbreviations that we might encounter.

Tbs.,Tbsp. or T=Tablespoon
C or c=cup
pt.=pint
qt.=quart
fl.=fluid
wt.=weight
oz.= ounce
lb.= pound
gal.= gallon
ºF= degree Fahrenheit
ºC= degree Celsius
pk.= peck
bu.= Bushel
in. or "= inch
hr.= hour
min.= minute
sec.= second
L= litre
mL= millilitre
kg= kilogram
g= gram
cm= centimetre


To Print out only the Common Baking Abbreviations Table; highlight it with your mouse, right click on the highlighted table. Choose the option PRINT. Change the Print Range from ALL to SELECTION. Press the PRINT button on the screen.
