Baking is part science and part art. These kitchen conversions will help you to keep the science straight. In cooking you have great liberty to alter ingredients and quantities to suite your tastes; the same can't really be said for baking. Changing any part of the science side of baking, namely measurements, can have dire consequences to your end product. Sure you can alter the spice mix slightly in spice cookies or your favorite pie; but it is not wise to play with flour, liquid or levening measurements. Precise is the word! I have compiled the following 9 kitchen conversions pages to help you keep your baking on track. Feel free to print them to keep them handy in your kitchen; and go ahead send this kitchen conversions link to your friends, they will thank you for it.
Happy Baking,
Miss Mary
Baking Measurement Equivalents
This helpful kitchen conversions table should help you out in a pinch (which by the way equals a few grains, a dry dash or less than 1/8 teaspoon). Occasionally you will need to convert measurements from one unit to another. If you are ever doubling recipes, you may find that it would be more efficient to use 1/4 cup instead of 4 Tablespoons. Conversely, If you are halving a recipe using 2 Tablespoons is easier than 1/8 of a cup, because an 1/8th cup measure is difficult to find. Any way you slice it or measure it, I hope these help.
Common Baking Abbreviations
Baking is a precise business. It is important that you understand these common baking abbreviations in order for you to get the best results from your baking efforts. There is a big difference between a Tablespoon (T, Tbsp. or Tbs.) of ground cloves and a teaspoon (t or tsp.). I often feel that the world would be a better place if all recipe authors would just standardize the way they write a recipe; I myself find it difficult to keep my writing standardized. Without that, we are forced to learn these common abbreviations that we might encounter. Keep this kitchen conversions table handy.

Recipe Ingredient Substitutions – Baking Substitutions
The best advice I can give you on recipe ingredient substitutions is don’t do it! That said, let’s be realistic here, we have all been stuck making a recipe without reading it through first and then half-way in we realize we don’t have something. It happens to the best of us. You may ask “what is going to happen if I use recipe ingredient substitutions?” No, the ingredient police are not going to storm down your kitchen door; the only thing that will happen is your results will be different than the recipe author intended. But hey, so what, yours might just even be better. Again, you really should always try to use the exact ingredients that a recipe author lists; but in a pinch you can try one of the following recipe ingredient substitutions on this handy kitchen conversions table.
US Baking Measures To Metric Conversions
Math! Who said we'd have to do math? Well, hopefully these handy US Baking Measures To Metric Conversions tables will help to keep the algebraeic equations to a minimum. We are truly living in a global society and I'm trying to make things a little friendlier. I've been told that America's way of measuring cooking and baking ingredients is extremely confusing to the rest of the world. So to the rest of the world, I hope these US Baking Measures To Metric Conversions tables will allow you to convert some of my delicious recipes so you can make them in your own home. The most important point to remember is that in America a cup is not a cup across the board. We have dry cups and we have liquid cups; we also have semi-liquid cups, but no one really talks about those. When I refer to semi-liquid cups, I am referring to things that are wet but thick, such as sour cream, jam, and peanut butter. For semi-liquid ingredients I sometimes use dry measures and I sometimes use liquid measures; I really don't know what the correct answer is because like I said no one really talks about those. You really need to use your best judgement. If you enjoy trying American recipes but the measuring system confuses you, you will want to keep these kitchen conversions tables handy.
