Simple Crumb Crust Recipes

I have compiled this page of Simple Crumb Crust Recipes to give you just an idea of what kinds of crusts you can make. You can make an easy crumb crust out of almost any dry cookie or sweet cracker available. Go ahead and be inventive, create your own; you need only to mix the crumbs with melted butter and possibly sugar. Simply think about what kind of filling will go into your crust and what type of cookie might compliment it.
Crumb crusts are most often used with unbaked pies or cheesecakes; sometimes they are baked before being filled or they may just be pressed into the pie plate. The following combinations will work for a 9 inch pie plate ; if you are making a 9 inch cheesecake or a deep dish pie you will need to add an additional ½ cup of the appropriate crumbs and an additional 1 Tbs. of melted butter.
1-1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs + ¼ cup sugar + 1/3 cup melted butter
1-1/2 cups vanilla wafer crumbs + ¼ cup melted butter
1-1/4 cups chocolate wafer crumbs + ¼ cup sugar + ¼ cup melted butter
1-1/2 cups Oreo type cookie crumbs + ¼ cup melted butter
1-1/2 cups gingersnap crumbs + ¼ cup melted butter
1-1/2 cups macaroon crumbs + ¼ cup melted butter
1-1/4 cups pretzel crumbs + ¼ cup sugar + ½ cup melted butter
(For pretzel crust be sure to grease the pie plate)
Combine the desired combination of ingredients in a medium sized mixing bowl and mix well. You may also use a food processor
for this step, do not over-process. Dump the mixture into an un-greased 9 inch pie plate
and press evenly. If baking the crust before filling, bake at 375º F for 8-10 minutes until lightly browned and cool completely on a wire cooling rack
before filling. See the above note about increasing ingredients if making a cheesecake or deep dish pie.
