Twisted Breadsticks Recipe – An Easy Breadstick Recipe
Bookmark For the Love of Baking.com
You are going to love this one. This Twisted Breadsticks Recipe is so simple to make, I know it’s going to easily go into your list of favorites. The most difficult thing is to remember to pull the puff pastry from the freezer and put it into the fridge to thaw. Yes, I use pre-packaged puff pastry sheets; before you go judging me, you need to try it. To make puff pastry from scratch is extremely time consuming, and I see no reason to put that effort out when there is an excellent product in our grocery store’s freezer section. This easy breadstick recipe is extremely versatile; I have given you a list of optional topping for you to try. If you want to suggest another topping, please let us know.

1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
1 large egg, beaten with a little water
Optional Toppings
Grated parmesan cheese; the good stuff, it shouldn’t come in a can - 1/3 cup is plenty
Freshly ground black pepper
Kosher Salt
Sesame seeds, black or tan
Minced garlic, dehydrated
Minced onion, dehydrated
Paprika
Lime pepper spice mix
Preheat oven to 425º F and line 2 large baking sheets
with parchment
paper.
Gently roll puff pastry into a 12x10 inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface with a lightly floured rolling pin. Using a pastry brush , brush the pastry lightly with egg and press desired topping or combination of toppings into the surface. Carefully turn the puff pastry over and repeat the process on the other side.
Cut the 12 inch side in half so that you have two 6x10 inch rectangles. Cut the 10 inch sides into ½ inch strips. Twist each strip in opposite directions and place twists on parchment
lined baking sheets . Bake in the center of the oven for 7 to 8 minutes until golden. Remove the breadsticks from the baking sheet and place on a wire cooling rack . You can serve these twisted breadsticks warm or at room temperature.
The above twisted breadsticks recipe uses one sheet of puff pastry. Typically you will find puff pastry in packages of two sheets. You can go ahead and use both sheets, the one egg should be sufficient for both, or you will need to only pull out only one sheet to thaw and keep the other sheet in the freezer. You will lose quality of the product if you allow both sheets to thaw and then re-freeze the remaining one.
